Background
The Sahara desert is the largest source of dust emission in the world. During the winter, spring and summer in the Northern Hemisphere, megatons of dust can change weather conditions in a flash as the haboob shows in the image above during June 2019 in Senegal. This was generated by a squall line that lifted dust and moved it for many, many miles. Forecasting such events is extremely difficult in real-time. Winter season dust events are larger in scale often covering many countries at once, but can be predicted with much greater accuracy.
